George Rea was once involved with cutting peat for winter fuel in a bog ‘up the country’ but with environmental pressures the practice has stopped in many areas of Northern Ireland. However George has retained many pieces of equipment that he and his family used for many years as they carried out the process of cutting the peat with special spades, laying it out to dry, turning it as often as it was required and then taking it home to store for use in their open fire during the winter. George will be giving a presentation on peat (or turf cutting) using old family photos taken at the peat bogs over the years and he will be bringing artefacts to complement his presentation.
It should be a very interesting evening.
